Now this was a way to finish off a Saturday night. With a big, brass-accented 1-2 punch, Caught a Ghost and Trapdoor Social played exuberant sets to a packed Taix Champagne Room on Saturday night at Echo Park Rising. Caught a Ghost, which has released only a handful of singles since their 2014 full-length, premiered a new song, “House on Fire,” which comes out on Friday. Trapdoor Social played new songs and old, bringing a six-piece horn section that was almost as scorching as frontman Skylar Funk’s hot sauce (Uncle Sky’s, it has a kick) that the band was selling at the merch table. The set had two kinds of afterburn.

Earlier, the day simply rocked. Low Hum rekindled the energy from their April residency at the Echo with a set of tunes from their album “Room to Breathe;” Talker played their EP “Horror Films” and previewed some new material; and Jagged Baptist Club proselytized for hard-edged rock with songs from “Reptile Super Show.”

Cosmo Gold laid down a crunchy-but-sweet set of songs from their EP “Waiting on the City” (and more); Talk Time drenched the room in sublime melody and sticky guitars with their “Year of Self” EP (and more); Ward delivered a sweaty, muscular set for the afternoon crowd; Opus Vitae impressed with a set of effects-accented experimental and dance-pop; and Data Maps, aka Paul Larson, performed all-new material for early arrivals, many of whom have followed him since his days in the Minor Canon and before.

And during every break, DJ Bumbaclot hopscotched genres and eras like a kid on a sidewalk.
