Wednesday night marked the beginning of the 35th annual Twilight on the Pier festival, a five-week music, comedy and cultural arts experience on the waterfront in Santa Monica. Shortly after sundown, Rostam took the stage. Accompanied by a four-piece string section, his presence gripped the crowd immediately. The 35-year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist masterfully crafted a night of ethereal energy.

Opener Dijon kicked off the evening in tremendous fashion with his smokey, folk/R&B sound. His raw, emotional vocals rattled the Santa Monica Pier to its foundations.

The free series continues Aug. 28 with Helado Negro, San Cha and Banda Las Angelinas.
