Ears Wide Open: The Lovepools

The Lovepools emerged in 2017 as the vehicle for the romance-obsessed songs of singer-songwriter Anthony Shea. The “Animal Instinct” EP that Shea, Aria Cruz and Fabrizio Cavallaro released that year was sampler of guitar-driven tunes with Britpop undertones (especially “I Might Jump Off the Deep End If You’re Mine”). Last year’s second EP, the seven-song “The Catch,” featured “See You in the Funny Papers,” which earned a spot on the ninth season of “Shameless.”
They’ve put the guitars largely on the shelf for their new single “White Lies & Palm Trees,” a lightweight synth-pop tune that drives the speed limit as Shea describes his cheery but realistic outlook on life in Los Angeles. As he describes it: “Red lights, daydreams, white lies, palm trees, rinse, repeat …”
It’s ideal for your next indie-pop playlist, or for a short drive home.
