Brooklyn artist Julianna Barwick headlines the ambient area of soundscapes curated by Dublab and Ninja Tune this Saturday at LACMA’s “Muse ‘Til Midnight” providing the sonic environment around the “The Allure of Matter: Material Art From China” exhibit of contemporary works from the past 40 years of the fast-changing country. Joining in support are local atmospheric audio conjurers Ana Roxanne, Ki Oni and Jeremiah Chiu (joined by violinist Marta Sofia Honer) using all manner of voice, loops, field recordings and more.
UK-based techo DJ Actress also headlines the turntablist area, fronting a special video installation by the Strangeloop and Femmebit video/new media collectives. New Hampshire’s Octa Octa and Vancouver’s Yu Su round out support for that area.
Dublab artist Maral and Directory Services’ Hello DJ begin the experience at the museum’s Smidt Welcome Plaza with choice musical selections.
The ages 18-plus event begins at 7:30 p.m., running through midnight. Tickets are $20 for LACMA members and $30 for the general public. $8 parking is available after 7 p.m. All performance areas are first come, first served with limited capacity.
LACMA is located at 5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036.
