Powering through the tail-end of a cold, front woman Amber Bain of the Japanese House braved a sore throat to deliver indie pop par excellence. Addressing the crowd, Bain implored, “I’m sure you all have noticed my sore throat. If you guys could sing along it would be much appreciated.” Later she urged the crowd to sing along again, “Do you guys feel like you can handle the next one? This is ‘Saw You in a Dream.'” Bolstered by a devoted audience, Bain jumped about the stage — at times reaching outward as if to pass on appreciative vibes as her band mates soloed. Though leaning heavily into her debut album, the Matt Healy (The 1975)-produced “Good At Falling,” Bain dug into older material like “Cool Blue,””Face Like Thunder” and closed the night with “Clean” just before saying “Thank you for coming. Love you guys.”

Overcoats opened up the night with electronically influenced pop balladry. Throughout their set, the band employed small choreographed moves that paired with their music. Speaking to the crowd they announced, “Both of our boys live in L.A. and we poached them. Huge thank you to Japanese House for having us. Truly an honor to be here.”
