Sometimes suffering actual loss doesn’t sting so much as the panic that sets in when you sense heartbreak is coming.

Celeste Tauchar — aka Talker — sees it approaching like a storm cloud and thunders, “Who will keep me safe when you’re gone?” It’s the big question in the emotive new single “Keep Me Safe,” the first new song from the L.A.-based artist since her “Horror Films” EP released earlier this year. Like the tunes on that EP, it’s a slow-building track, though it relies less on big guitars than it does on the strength of her vocals.

“The song came out of my own fear of the inevitable,” she says of the single, the first from a new EP she has in the works. “I knew I was about to lose someone from my life and couldn’t focus on anything else, which also had a negative effect on the time we were spending together.”

The video, directed by Jake Goble and Krizia Vega, finds Talker in various stages of seeking catharsis. “I wanted to create the visual manifestation of those emotions,” she says. “However, there is redemption in owning up to your feelings, and throughout the course of the next few singles, the story will continue as we see the result of trusting how you feel.”

“Keep Me Safe,” produced and mixed by Andrew Heringer, is out via the L.A.-based label/collective Common Ground.
