Alone on a tranquil hilltop sing Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan (aka The Milk Carton Kids) in their sweet signature harmony in the video for their new album’s title track, “The Only Ones.” Northeast Angelenos may recognize that the Eagle Rockers are at the beautiful Debs Park in neighboring Highland Park. Director Patrick Mattes captures the duo perfectly in this acoustic country-folk tune calling out to a loved one who’s found themselves in “a deep, dark hole,” the scene slowly widening to reveal the vastness and reflection of such in Deb’s Lake at the foot of Pattengale and Ryan. The song and image speak to how sometimes our problems can seem much larger than us and yet friends see us at the edge and beckon us to take hold of them and climb out, helping us realize we’re not alone in our struggles.

“The Only Ones,” released last Friday, is Milk Carton Kids’ fifth studio album and the first released from their new label Milk Carton Records, in partnership with Thirty Tigers. They kick off their 17-date “A Night with the Milk Carton Kids in Very Small Venues at Very Low Ticket Prices Tour” next week through December before heading to the UK next year.
