As author and artist Bruce Garrabrandt once said, “Creativity doesn’t wait for that perfect moment. It fashions its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones.” Self-described “tenderpunk,” frontwoman Sarah Tudzin credits Illuminati Hotties’ new single “ppl plzr” as the product of a wild hare at the crack of dawn, “‘ppl plzr’ was created a couple weeks ago, in a vacuum, at 4:30 AM, and the deluge of three delirious days that followed. Everything happened so quickly, and I couldn’t let it burn a hole in my hard drive for much longer.”
The itch to create is real. After spending most of 2019 touring in support of her fantastic 2018 debut “Kiss Your Frenemies” Tudzin explains that though an album cycle isn’t quite in the works yet, “I AM feeling a moment. I have something to say about it, and I want to do that now while it feels most visceral in the hopes that you will be open to experiencing emotions with me in real time.”
Following in the footsteps of her March release “I Wanna Keep Yr Dog,”“ppl plzr” traces the foibles of a failed romance in a comedic blush of detail, “Half-off at a tiki bar/Mellow moonlight on the carpet/Even only slightly zooted/Everything seems lush with you, kid.” The shimmering track thrives on the exquisite amalgam of doo-wop melody and power chords, with Tudzin’s “so it goes” delivery sending it over the top (in the best way).
Currently the track is offered as a name-your-price download on Bandcamp with all proceeds benefiting the “The Trevor Project,” a crisis intervention and suicide prevention organization in service to LGBTQ youth under 25. Says Tudzin, “Every person deserves the opportunity to be themselves – to BECOME themselves…”
