Ears Wide Open: Rincs

Rincs are the duo of Rebecca Ramirez and Bjorn Winberg, who met because, well, sometimes online dating sites work in funny ways. Winberg went on a date with Ramirez’s sister, who smartly decided the pair should meet and did an email introduction. A flurry of back-and-forth followed as the pair found common interests in literature, art and music. And a few months later, Rincs had a batch of demos, some of which they’ve released on Bandcamp.
Working with Ableton and keeping the production endearingly DIY, Rincs forge a lo-fi sound that often recalls the heyday of IDM — glitchy, tuneful bursts that read like (co-authored) diary entries from English majors you wouldn’t mind meeting in a coffee shop. If they weren’t too shy to engage in conversation.
Rincs are prepping the release of their first EP, “Spell It Out,” for L.A.-based Future Gods, and “Locked In” is a good introduction, with Ramirez’s vaguely detached coo flitting over the top of electronic beats. Even at just over 2 minutes, it’s easy to lock in to what Rincs are doing.
