In October, L.A.’s Future Feats released their debut album “[ P R E S E T S ],” a collection of de rigueur alt-pop featuring the dramatic ruminations of frontman Josh Quinn set to mostly danceable beats and spiked with slick synths and biting guitars for extra effect.
The album, Quinn has explained, offers a timeline of life-altering events. “Each song on the album was inspired by real moments in time,” he says. “It’s essentially a collection of traumatic past events meant to be heard from beginning to end. So I placed the dates in brackets, and have since come to refer to these pieces as: ‘Presets.’”
So rewind to [080315], for the arching album opener “Runaway,” a song about departure that carries on wistfully and longingly until a guitar solo switches up the mood at the 2:45 mark. Director Orie McGinness’ stylish video follows Quinn to a commonplace destination for those seeking to get away — the desert. By the end, it’s evident Quinn still hasn’t found what he’s looking for.
