Video: In.Drip., ‘Titles’

Trevor Wolfe is a Valley kid, the son of a father who operates Carney’s on Sunset and a mother who was a TV costumist. He was a choir boy as a kid and an axe-wielding glam rocker in his teens before (stop us if you’ve heard this before) learning Ableton and setting about making beats. A couple of years ago, his new musical persona In.Drip. was born.

It’s a vehicle for his sleek, dark pop songs, reminiscent of the Neighbourhood’s Jesse Rutherford and a host of others populating the universe of synth-saturated confessionals set to hip-hop beats. After initially teasing “Titles” as In.Drip.’s debut single in 2018, Wolfe signed to +1 Records (home to Luna Shadows, among others), which rewound his release cycle.

So In.Drip. “debuted” in August with the single “CVS,” and last week brought the official release of “Titles,” along with the song’s video directed by Tyler Winther. It’s well-crafted, typical pop fare, with Wolfe’s intimate vocals carried along (on his long drive back to the Valley) by an insistent melody and warm production.

Wolfe says he wrote “Titles” in the dead of winter, memorizing lines from “Slaughterhouse-Five.” “I felt like I was in a haze all the time — going to bed at 4 a.m., waking up in the afternoon,” he explains. “‘Titles’ is about wanting someone (anyone) while struggling with loneliness and depression. Just looking for some sort of connection to distract myself. That connection only happens when the sun is down.” What came out was a hard hitting song, set to the backdrop of his life in the Valley.”
