Video: Silversun Pickups, ‘Don’t Know Yet’

“I need a fresh start now / Reboot the machine,” Brian Aubert sings over sparse keys and beats at the beginning of “Don’t Know Yet” — something Silversun Pickups tried to do, with only mixed results, on June’s “Widow’s Reeds,” their fifth album. As young rock bands have resuscitated the edgy sounds and palpable angst of the alternative era (and before), the long-running Silver Lake quartet continues to distance itself from its noisy post-punk roots.

At least, almost two decades into their career, Aubert and mates Nikki Monninger, Joe Lester and Christopher Gunalao are still in the same room, which where director Alan Del Rio Ortiz’s video for “Don’t Know Yet” finds them. The video is briefly reminiscent of the madcap clip for “Kissing Families” over a decade ago. All hell does not break loose this time … but one can hope.

SSPU also just announced a 2020 tour with two local dates.
