Here’s one final song for the holiday season — a beautiful and poignant one at that — and perfect for New Year’s Day.
It’s from a duo going by the moniker Prettypleas, a collaboration between two longtime L.A. musicians who have worked together before but now have given the project a rather ingenious name.
“Better Luck Next Year,” released right before Christmas, is the brainchild of Jacqueline Santillán Beighley, one-half of the husband-wife duo Wait. Think. Fast, and Jake Gideon, who fronts long-running L.A. rockers the Breakups in addition to playing guitar in the Pretty Flowers.
It was 10 years ago that the pair collaborated on a song that eventually appeared on the Breakups’ album “Running Jumping Falling Shouting.”
So, pretty please, enjoy this sentiment: “Took a few knocks, stomach in knots / Better luck next year / Out of the haze, turning the page / Hope for the next year.”
