L.A. rockers Love Ghost have come a long way since we first heard them venting their teenage angst back in 2016. Back then, singer-guitarist Finnegan Bell wasn’t even old enough to drive, let alone vote. And what they lacked in songwriting polish, they made up for in sheer energy.

Fast forward to 2019, and the quintet — Bell, along with guitarist Nicky Renard, bassist Ryan Stevens, drummer Samson Young and keyboardist Cory Batchler — has the album “Lobotomy” under their belt, not to mention the November-released single “Let It All Burn,” a rumbling middle finger of a rocker that has earned deserved notice in modern rock brotherhoods/sisterhoods populated by musicians who believe guitars still matter. A lot.

“‘Let It All Burn’ is how I see the world through my 18-year-old eyes,” Bell says of the song, the proceeds from which go towards the band’s ongoing work feeding the homeless on L.A.’s Skid Row. “The hypocrisy and unwanted advice that weighed me down during senior year led to this song — ‘fuck what they say, I make my own way.’”

The song was produced by Danny Saber, whose credits include the Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper and the Charlatans, and the burner of a video was directed by Dean Karr.

Speaking of videos, Love Ghost has another on the way later this month, before their live date at Resident. It’s not released yet, but the video for “Dead Brother,” directed by Jeff Daniel Phillips, is one of 15 finalists at the New York Film Awards (having already won awards at two other festivals. Look for it Jan. 24.
