Fresh off their wild performance at a rally for Sen. Bernie Sanders at the University of New Hampshire on Monday night, the Strokes have announced that their new album, “The New Abnormal,” will be out April 10.
It’s their sixth album and first in seven years, made at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu with the legendary Rick Rubin and featuring cover art of the painting “Bird on Money” by Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Their new song “At the Door” is a mellow fellow, maybe too much for its own good, with Julian Casablancas pining over wheezing synths.
It’s not like the Strokes have been sunning themselves on the beach these past years. Casablancas fronted his project the Voidz; Albert Hammond Jr. has seen his solo work explode in popularity; Nick Valensi helmed the band CRX; Nikolai Fraiture debuted his band Summer Moon in 2016; and Fabrizio Moretti recently released music under the name Machinegum.
