Two years ago, Kelvin Ruiz was selling the tracks he posted on Soundcloud to other artists for $7 a pop so he could afford a $200 laptop. The Venezuelan, who makes electronic music under the name WOST, was 16 years old at the time.

His work came to the attention of Los Angeles-based Waxploitation Records, which back in the day nurtured artists such as Gnarls Barkley and Danger Mouse. Waxploitation signed WOST, convinced him to keep his music for himself and got him a new laptop.

Now 18, WOST today released his third track for Waxploitation, “Presidente,” a collaboration with New York singer-songwriter Ginette Claudette. It’s a wild two-plus minutes that blends merengue, reggaeton and hip-hop, something you could imagine hearing walking across the field at a future Coachella.
