It was a night of words and music Friday — both spellbinding — as Natasha Khan, aka Bat for Lashes, marked the halfway point in an eight-date North American tour.
The stripped-down show, featuring the singer on guitar and keys accompanied by just another keyboardist, featured material from Bat for Lashes’ fifth album, “Lost Girls,” released last fall, and the follow-up live EP, which included a cover of Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer.”
Interspersed between the songs were readings from the novella Khan wrote while working on her 2016 album, “The Bride.” Her encore on Friday night concluded with two covers, Kath Bush’s “This Woman’s Work” and Cyndi Lauper’s “I Drove All Night.” It wrapped a set that included five songs from “Lost Girls,” and a smattering from her previous four-lengths, including “The Horse and I” from her 2006 debut “Fur and Gold.”
Setlist: Kids in the Dark, The Hunger, Mountains, Desert Man, Feel for You, Jasmine, Joe’s Dream, Boys of Summer (Don Henley cover), Close Encounters, Land’s End, Daniel, Horse and I, Laura. Encore: Moon and Moon, This Woman’s Work (Kate Bush cover), I Drove All Night (Cyndi Lauper cover)
