They left their hearts in … Oakland?
“East Bay Love” is the new single from L.A. garage-rock/power-pop fun bunch Ugly Sweaters, who are prepping the release of their first EP since 2018’s “Sisters.” It’s 2 1/2 minutes of brisk pop-rock, and we suppose that if Weezer can write a song about sweaters, then Ugly Sweaters can take Weezer’s similarly crunchy sound and immortalize the East Bay.
The quartet — the husband-and-wife tandem of Mandlenkosi “Mandla” Daley and Claire Daley, along with rhythm section Alex Pfender (yOya) and Ian Meltzer (Valley Boy) — makes the kind of giddy songs that never go out of style and always seem to end too soon, and they’re known for their passionate live shows. “East Bay Love” will make you want to smile and shake something.
