The Rapture hadn’t played a non-festival L.A. show since 2012 before Tuesday’s night’s concert at the El Rey Theatre.

The beloved NYC dance-punk outfit was welcomed back with a roar by a near-capacity footloose crowd on the first of their three nights at the El Rey. Fans were already dancing before the band came out on stage. And everyone cheered when they finally opened the curtains and started their set with “Get Myself Into It” from their 2006 album “Piece of the People We Love.”

The energy stayed high, with dancing, singing, crowd-surfing and moshing going on throughout, especially when they touched on “Caravan” from their 2001 mini-album “Out of The Races and Onto the Tracks.” The Rapture ended up playing a few songs from every album, but favorites like “House of Jealous Lovers,” “Echoes,” “Sister Savior” and “Olio” (all from 2003) earned the biggest response.

The band soldiered through some technical difficulties but returned to encore with “How Deep Is Your Love?” and “In The Grace of Your Love” from 2011.

Frontman Luke Jenner returned the crowd’s love all night, handing and throwing out white roses to the crowd, so by the end of the night a lot of fans came out of El Rey with white roses and smiles on their faces.

The Rapture reprise their show tonight and Thursday at the El Rey.
