Singer-songwriter Michelle Guerrero unveiled her solo project Michi last year. Working with producer Jake Munk, Michi — a former member of the band Private Island — crafts atmospheric retro-pop that arrives in a wash of coquettish coos.
Her three singles so far have a vibe not unlike that of the Marías, albeit less informed by jazz and psychedelia. This week, Michi released the Haley Apell-directed video for her latest, “Night Moves.” It’s good for getting your solo groove on, and there’s probably a lot of that going on these days.
