Stream: A.O. Gerber, ‘In the Morning’

Singer-songwriter A.O. Gerber has been engaging L.A. audiences with her swoon-worthy indie-rock for a couple of years, a self-described “eternal softie” doing airy, contemplative music such as her first proper single, 2019’s “Strangers.”

A new day dawns on Gerber’s new single “In the Morning,” released today along with the news that her debut album, “Another Place to Need,” will be coming out via Madeline Kenney’s Copper Mouth Records (in the U.S.), and Hand in Hive (U.K.).

Gerber tells the Line of Best Fit, where the track premiered, that she wrote the song in her car while on tour. “A really traumatic relationship I was in ended days before leaving and I felt awful,” but also really grateful for the excuse to leave the city.”

“Wish I could drown this fucking heart of mine / in that lilac-painted ocean spreading wide,” she confesses, surrounded by a rhythm section of Alex Oñate and Madison Megna and emboldened by French horn (played by Sasami Ashworth), trumpet (Noah Weinman of Runnner) and pedal steel (Philippe Bronchtein). The album, made over the course of three years and co-produced by Kenney, is out May 22.
