Presenting QUARANTUNES No. 4, the latest in our interview/artist playlist series, featuring the duo Azure Ray. They share a playlist of truly golden oldies mixed with new nuggets.
THE LATEST FROM AZURE RAY
Azure Ray is the dream-pop duo consisting of musicians Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink. Azure Ray recently joined Flower Moon Records with the re-release of their self-titled debut record featuring the songs “Sleep,” “Rise” and “Displaced,” in addition to their sophomore record, “Burn and Shiver.” “Waves” (released in October 2018) marked Azure Ray’s first new recordings in six years, featuring three new songs, a cover of R.E.M.’s “Nightswimming” and an updated re-recording of their early hit, “Hold On Love.”
HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?
Maria Taylor: I think yesterday I took a turn and started to feel creative. It took about a week to process this. I am trying to stay outdoors (weather allowing) and trying to keep the kids happy and entertained. Long walks and explorations. Excited to start collaborating with people remotely on musical projects and to read some books!
Orenda Fink: I’m in the High Desert, so I’ve been practicing social distancing for awhile, hah hah. It’s a beautiful time of year here, so I’ve been trying to balance my worry and anxiety with nature walks, and lots of whiskey. I’ve been working on a memoir, and the space has allowed me to really dig into that. When I’m finished with my first draft, gonna write some Azure Ray songs!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?
Maria: I want to have a big party and get really close to all my friends.
Orenda: I’m looking forward to Maria’s party! I’ll be the one tackling people.
ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?
Maria and Orenda: This is a combination of songs that each of us or both of us love.
