In today’s edition of Buzz Bands LA’s interview/artist playlist series QUARANTUNES, SoCal trio Brainstory goes deep. And we mean way deep. Their playlist is a revelation and an education, but first …

THE LATEST FROM BRAINSTORY

The pride of Rialto, Brainstory are brothers Kevin and Tony Martin and Eric Hagstrom, whose wild ride through the hallways of vintage psychedelic funk and soul music was captured on their album “Buck,” released in November via Big Crown Records. It’s notable — and evident if you’ve ever seen them live — that they refer to “Buck” as “a state of mind, a way of life, a demeanor that gets you through the good times and the bad.” With their touring plans on hold, the trio is getting ready to release their cover of “Runaway,” the 1967 track by Chicano soul hero Sunny Ozuna (aka Sunny and the Sunliners). Check out “Buck” below — and there’s the instrumental version of the album, too.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

Brainstory: To stay sane as always, we are staying creative in anyway possible. We’ve been cooking up some new tunes for the upcoming album.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

Brainstory: We are most excited to perform again! If you’ve been to our shows, you know how important connecting to people through music is to us. But also we are hoping to see all of our family and friends healthy and well after all of this blows over.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

Brainstory: Use this playlist to get buck and stay safe. Whatever that means to you.
