Inara George

Singer-songwriter and multi-tasker Inara George recognizes that she’s luckier than most during this difficult time. And, she points out, “it’s hard to imagine how anything could reveal the disparity in this country even more, but this pandemic is really taking things to a new level. Today’s edition of the Buzz Bands LA interview/artist playlist series QUARANTUNES:

THE LATEST FROM INARA GEORGE

Inara George always has a lot of irons in the fire. With Greg Kurstin, she’s one-half of the duo The Bird and the Bee, which last year released the second volume of their covers series, “Interpreting the Masters (A Tribute to Van Halen),” which took “Hot for Teacher” to another level. George’s last solo album, 2018’s “Dearest Everybody,” was a delight — but as has been her nature, she devotes considerable energy to promoting the community around her. In 2018, she started Release Me Records, which last year released debut albums by Alex Lilly and Samantha Sidley.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

I’m feeling pretty good. I’m sure I’m running through all the emotions just like everyone is. Fear, anxiety, joy, gratitude, holy fuck what is happening? … And just to put it out there, I know how lucky I am, in so many ways. It’s hard to imagine how anything could reveal the disparity in this country even more, but this pandemic is really taking things to a new level. It’s heartbreaking.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

I’m not sure. I think being in an enclosed space, like a club or restaurant and not being afraid to be around other people. I really miss being physically close to friends and strangers.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

It’s a collection of songs I’ve been listening to — or wish I was listening to when I’m not homeschooling my children— while on lockdown.
