With their 2019 debut album still simmering, L.A. quartet HUNNY saw their first major headlining tour fall victim to the COVID-19 shutdown. In today’s edition of the Buzz Bands LA interview/artist playlist series QUARANTUNES, frontman Jason Yarger talks about cabin fever, bingeing on TV and video games and staying productive as he stays at home.

THE LATEST FROM HUNNY

Weirdly, HUNNY’s debut album, “Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.,” released last summer, took shape during one natural disaster (2018’s Woolsey and Camp Fires). Now, another disaster has thrown a wrench into their plans for 2020. The L.A. quartet — Jason Yarger, Jake Goldstein, Kevin Grimmett and Joey Anderson — was due to kick off a big headlining tour in earnest in mid-March, but those dates have been postponed. Meanwhile, fans are keeping HUNNY’s addictive album on simmer, and they might hear new material soon.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

Jason Yarger: I think I’m definitely starting to feel the cabin fever vibe. Copious amounts of video games and TV have been my saving grace, to be honest. And taking my dog for long walks and doing home workouts on my driveway. Of course, the boys and I are trying to stay sane writing as much music at home as we can. The silver lining to this whole situation is that we now have some time to work on new stuff when we would otherwise still be on the road. We have the opportunity to (hopefully) have some sort of new music out in time for our rescheduled tour. Fingers crossed.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

Jason Yarger: More than anything, we’re looking forward to playing shows again. We were so unbelievably stoked seeing all the dates selling out in advance on this one and couldn’t wait for the shows. Other than that, we miss surfing. I’m sure a boys dawn patrol will be first on the to-do list when we’re out of this. At this point, just leaving my apartment without a face mask and rubber gloves will be a win.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

Jason Yarger: Just some nice tunes to give everyone a break from the “Animal Crossing” soundtrack.
