Quarantunes: A playlist by Katzù Oso

Katzù Oso’s bedroom synth-pop — both his balladry and disco songs — is the stuff of springtime crushes and late-night text convos. The rising Latinx artist shares his new single, his thoughts about being cooped up in his studio and a too-short playlist in today’s edition of the Buzz Bands LA series QUARANTUNES.
THE LATEST FROM KATZÙ OSO
Katzù Oso is the nom de tune of Montebello’s Paul Hernandez, whose affection for ’80s music shined on his early singles (including “Cherry Love”) and his 2018 debut EP “Pastel.” He’s performed with artists such as the Marías, Cuco, Omar Apollo, BROCKHAMPTON and Tyler, the Creator, as well as at last year’s Tropicália Festival. His new single “In Too Deep,” which heralds the arrival of his sophomore EP in June, is worthy of any quarantine dance party — a lovelorn, riffy number with ample bass to bump to. The timing of the single? “I wanted to make sure I gave my fans something to enjoy while they stay home,” he says.
HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?
I’m doing good! I’m kind of used to being home all the time anyway, since I have my studio here, so this isn’t a huge change for me. But I do miss going to shows and having that freedom to just go anywhere.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?
Jumping back on the road! I miss performing and sharing the stage with my best friends! But for now I can focus on writing and releasing new tunes.
ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?
Some of these songs I’ve loved since my high school days, some old digs, and some new jams from up and coming artists! I felt super-limited by picking 19, but I put this little list together.
