QUITAPENAS

True to their name, which translates as “remove worries,” Inland Empire sextet QUITAPENAS has been spreading good vibes for more than five years. In today’s edition of Buzz Bands LA’s QUARANTUNES, the Afro-Latin group shares its new single and a truly global playlist as they honor the lockdown by staying creative.

THE LATEST FROM QUITAPENAS

QUITAPENAS hasn’t let up since last August’s release of “Tigrada,” an album of thoroughly danceable yet topically relevant songs that speak to their roots in the music of Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Angola and beyond. In March, the sextet released their take on the classic “La Bamba,” and today they follow up with the release of the frisky “Te Adoro” — a declaration of a love so strong that “Mi corazón se hace oro” (“My heart turns to gold”). “With influences from ’60s, ’70s and ’80s Bachata music from the Dominican Republic, ‘Te Adoro’ is a song about love,” singer-guitarist Daniel Gomez says. “I wrote it for my partner to try and be cute, I also had my children in mind as well. It’s all about feeling grateful and fortunate to be able to share the love we have for each other. It is about the euphoric moments we have together and the memories that we get to look back on with a smile.”

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

Being able to self-isolate in a safe place is a true privilege that we honor by staying creative. We’ve been collaborating on music via computer. We bounce song ideas and concepts back and forth between the crew. We even dropped our first self-produced single a few weeks ago and we have several in the works.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

We’re looking forward to hugs and hanging out with each other, having dinner parties, jamming out and hitting the stage. We have a tour, an EP and parties that we are excited to share with everyone.
