Sister duo Chaos Chaos are trying to keep some semblance of work routine during the COVID-19 shutdown. In today’s edition of Buzz Bands LA’s QUARANTUNES — along with their two latest and very different singles — Chloe Saavedra reveals her day list, what happened in Joshua Tree that inspired one of the songs and an “all-over-the-place” playlist.

THE LATEST FROM CHAOS CHAOS

Child prodigies Asya and Chloe Saavedra — who got their start at ages 5 and 7, respectively, in the band Smoosh — have grown into an artistic force that is impossible to pigeonhole. The sisters adopted the name Chaos Chaos in 2012, naming their act after a genus of giant amoebae known for their radical shape-shifting. And so it is with the duo’s often cinematic and experimental pop. In 2018, they released their self-titled album, along with “Kanye’s B-Day Song,” a collaboration with “Rick and Morty’s” Justin Roiland written at the behest of Kim Kardashian West.

After releasing a handful of singles in 2019, Chaos Chaos got busy in the new year, releasing the ennui-drenched “Many Roads” and followed it last week with “Capital T,” an ambient instrumental excursion that, not surprisingly, was inspired by an excursion to the desert. “‘Many Roads’ is a quantum pop song that leads you through the many roads or ‘worlds’ a relationship could take,” Chloe Saavedra says. “‘Capital T’ is a song Asy and I made while in the desert in Joshua Tree. When Asy and I are alone, we end up doing really weird things. We were challenging each other to befriend these Marines in the area and ended up jogging and working out with them for fun. We’d work on music, work out with Marines and drink whiskey. I feel like you gotta drink whiskey in the desert. Was an interesting time and this song came of it.”

Note: Chaos Chaos are doing an online stream at 4 p.m. today on Twitch.TV.

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

Chloe Saavedra: This doesn’t feel too far off from our normal life, so we’re OK for now. Getting pretty lonely, though. Managing it by making day lists and trying to stick to them. My day lists are like:

10-11am Jog
12pm Zoom Asy go over video project
3pm Bike ride
4pm Finish lyrics for “Eternal”
8pm Zoom game night .. wooo

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

Chloe Saavedra: Dancing in a crowd of sweaty people … Also really stoked for all the new material Asy and I have that we’ll be releasing. Planning some virtual ideas for performances that work with or without quarantine. I’m not sure when we’ll be allowed to tour next, sadly.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

Chloe Saavedra: This is stuff I’m listening to at the moment that feels important to me now. I feel like there’s always some collective brain in our culture where randomly what feels relevant right now to one person likely will feel relevant to other people too. So hopefully these songs will resonate with you even though they are very all over the place!
