L.A. retroists SadGirl return this week with the new single “Learn to Swim,” the follow-up to last summer’s debut full-length “Water.”
It’s a woozy, melancholic tune that again finds SadGirl in the water, or as main man Misha Lindes sings, treading it. “With all of the shake-ups and cancellations, I felt like the song needed to get out there,” he says. “It seemed too relevant to everything that was going on. I want people to know we’re still here and we’re gonna be here after this has all settled down. Adapt and thrive.”
The video was directed by Owen Summers, who says, “I wanted to illustrate my interpretation of the song, using color and texture. Looking to emphasize the charm of the hazy melody, I used the character and his strange journey to embody what the song meant to me.”
SadGirl has announced new dates (fingers crossed) for their 32-date tour with Wavves, which is scheduled to end Nov. 19 at the Wiltern. For immediate gratification, they’ll be live on their Instagram page at 3 p.m. today.
