Becky Stark could sing the sun out from behind the clouds. And her clarion voice, a vessel of joy and hope, remains unblemished by the long hiatus of her ensemble, Lavender Diamond.

The band returned today in full orchestral splendor with their first single in more than eight years, “Look Through the Window.” It finds the singer reuniting with bandmates Steve Gregoropoulos and Ron Rege Jr., with whom she made two albums, 2007’s “Imagine Our Love” and 2012’s “Incorruptible Heart.” On the new song Stark reaches chill-inducing heights backed by an eight-piece orchestra including Bright Eyes’ Nate Wolcott on trumpet and Sasami Ashworth on French horn.

“This song resounded in my heart and mind for months — it was all I wanted to sing,” she says. “It felt so mysterious — a song about such deep isolation, separation and rebirth. When the quarantine began, it suddenly seemed that this song had come to speak to this moment of trial and transformation — and contained within it a prayer for the healing of our world.”

The song is Lavender Diamond’s first after their signing to Petaluma Records. Pre-pandemic, they had a May tour scheduled with Bright Eyes. The video for the song is the work of Morgansbrother.
