Seth Bogart is back, and not a moment too soon.
The multi-disciplinary provocateur and queer icon will release his first album since 2016 this month. “Seth Bogart Presents … Men on the Verge of Nothing” arrives June 26 via his own Wacky Wacko Recordings, building on a musical legacy he started in Gravy Train!!! and continued over three albums with Hunx & His Punx.
If camp can be high art and that art in turn can be commodified, Bogart is in the clouds, as he has shown with his art installations (mixing sculpture, ceramics, video and painting) and his clothing line and curio shop — not to mention his outlandish web series “Feelin’ Fruity” — attest.
His new album’s teaser single “Boys Who Don’t Wanna Be Boys,” a spry punk song about … well, boys. The video, made by Bogart and Henry Metcalf and self-filmed in the safety of the co-stars’ homes, features comedians Kate Berlant and John Early, Tammie Brown from RuPaul’s Drag Race and queer artists such as JD Samson, Brooke Candy and San Cha. There’s a U.S. Girls remix of the song on the way next week.
