When Cold War Kids last November released the first in their album trilogy, “New Age Norms 1,” they had no idea what age lay ahead, or what the new norms might be.
But the gruesome video for the first song from “New Age Norms 2” (coming at an unspecified date later this year, the band says) speaks to an overwhelming dread. “Who’s Gonna Love Me Now,” starring Gabbriette Bechtel, Indiana Piorek and Davidenth, was directed by Ramez Silyan, aka Mezzy, who helmed the Lil Peep documentary “Everybody’s Everything” and has also done work for Lil Uzi Vert, Playboy Carti, Lil Tracy and Boyscouts.
“‘Who’s Gonna Love Me Now’ is the first on the record — the start of the hero’s journey,” Cold War Kids frontman Nathan Willett says. “With this video, Mezzy nailed that moment of irreverence, frustration and rejection of ordinary life.”
Says Mezzy: “It was important for me for this video to feel like a part of a larger film. For it to have an arc where you could feel character motivation, not necessarily understand the wider context, but be able to infer it. That these people have to get home before they are killed by the outside world. It feels like a familiar feeling right about now.”
