You know those raging dance parties you’re missing because of the coronavirus lockdown? Josh Legg was kind of over them anyway.

The mastermind of Goldroom teamed up with indie trio Moontower on the new single, “Guess I’m Jaded” (which came out Friday), another addition to Legg’s deep catalog of summery disco jams. It’s a return to the funky-fun Goldroom aesthetic from which Legg deviated on the 2019 album “Plunge /\ Surface,” a more laid-back electronic affair that saw him collaborating with vocalists Mereki, Chela, Nikki Segal and Love, Alexa.

“The songwriting session that resulted in ‘Guess I’m Jaded’ was my last before quarantine,” Legg says. “Ironically, we decided to write a song about being jaded with going out to parties, which has slowly given the song about six new layers of meaning over the intervening months. I can remember the looseness and fun of that session, though. It feels both like yesterday and like two years ago, the five of us in a cramped room, singing about packed parties and wishing to get some time to spend alone with loved ones. Careful what you wish for …”

Goldroom’s 2019 album was informed in part by his recovery from a broken neck Legg sustained while bodysurfing in Mexico in 2017. “The period after the accident was a very weird and hazy time in my life,” he says, “but I started working on music again pretty quickly.”

It’s been almost a decade since Legg broke away from the trio Nightwaves to found Goldroom, so there have been plenty of parties. Now a dad in addition to his work as a songwriter, producer and label guy, he’s probably seen enough of them.
