Younger Hunger’s new single “Pray 4 U” is about reflecting on oneself, which is something we’ve all had ample time to do this year.

Lead singer Tony Davia says “Pray 4 U” is about “searching for something to hold onto in a confusing and turbulent time. … The lyrics are basically just me working through some of my own personal frustrations with myself and with the world around me.”

“Pray 4 U” is mesmerizing and enchanting. The chorus guitars, dizzy synth and remarkably catchy pop vocals feel reminiscent of something you would have heard decades long ago, only with a modern spin. This track is less angsty than their previous work, demonstrating a distinct progression in their musicianship.

The Long Beach trio, now comprised of Davia, Lucas Connor and Becket Edwards, have been busy this year. While some artists have struggled to remain productive amid COVID-19, the indie-pop group has seized the opportunity. Having released their first EP, “Yikes,” featuring the single, “Dead Inside,” earlier this year, the trio has since then released four additional singles, “Elmer,” “Goodbye Bye Bye,” “YUNG” and now “Pray 4 U.”

The trio recently recorded and released a home-made video for “Elmer.” Davia told American Songwriter that “the song is about a pair of people cheating on their partners with each other, and the feelings and confusions that come along with it.”

“YUNG” was covered in a piece by Rolling Stone that highlights the significant increase in artists recording and releasing musical independently as a result of COVID-19.

It’s clear Hunger Younger has found their rhythm. Stay tuned for more from the trio.
