When Eric Brown officially introduced his music as EasyFriend two years ago, he did it with the single “Create Yourself.” That, in a way, is what the New Orleans native had done in previous years, traveling the country in a vintage RV with his dog Norman.

Now isolated on his desert homestead in Twentynine Palms, Brown has gotten more creative in rolling out “Get What You Want,” EasyFriend’s second single of 2020. The video for the tune is a black-and-white affair right out of the silent movie era, with an Old West storyline to match: A stranger comes to town and ends up vying for the affections of a young woman. There’s a twist, of course.

“‘Get What You Want’ brings us a tale as old as time: the battle with yourself,” Brown says. “Oftentimes, we are the ones that hold us back, believing we are either unworthy or that the goal is just too far out of reach. We become our own worst enemy. Well, sometimes you need to face that demon head on. … So enjoy a dusty little story of a man vs himself.”

The video stars Carol Anne Watts, Philip V. Bruenn and S. Scott McCracken, along with EasyFriend himself. DeVaughn Taylor and Matthew Faulkner directed, and BetaWave TV and Wildfire Pictures produced.

It’s good, campy fun with the occasional anachronism (who brought folding chairs to the Old West?), and, no surprise, EasyFriend gets what he wants. Reach for it.
