L.A. noise-rock standouts HEALTH are throwing longtime followers a curveball this fall. Not that anyone is likely to mind.
The announcement from the band today: “In the past each HEALTH LP has been accompanied by a corresponding remix record. This time, despite being called ‘DISCO 4’ in the interest of continuity, we offer you a collection of original collaborations with artists we admire. Also, FUCK 2020.”
The visuals for the lone non-collaborative single on the album, the lead song “Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0,” actually look a lot like 2020, so we couldn’t agree more.
The 12-track album — full title “DISCO4 :: PART I” — will be out Oct. 16 via Loma Vista. It’s the follow-up to HEALTH’S 2019 full-length “VOL. 4 :: SLAVES OF FEAR.”
Besides the gloriously haunting single “Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0,” the new album features collaborations with the likes of EBM duo Youth Code, experimental artist Xiu Xiu, rapper JPEGMAFIA, darkwavers the Soft Moon, indie-rocker Soccer Mommy and alt-pop twerps 100 Gecs, among others. That’s some variety.
