Frankie and the Witch Fingers turn the dial way up on their beastly sci-fi psychedelic garage-rock furnace for their new album “Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters …” In fact, if such meter has a King Gizzard setting, the L.A. quartet is operating just to the right of that.

The album, out Oct. 2 via Greenway / The Reverberation Appreciation Society, is the band’s fifth and the follow-up to 2019’s “ZAM,” which found the quartet ditching their more lo-fi sound in favor of something truly crackling and booming. “Monsters” forges ahead with a sound that captures the physicality of their live performance and showcases their technical prowess, while embracing (and having great fun with) their cosmic horror aesthetic. The album was made by founding members Josh Menashe and Dylan Sizemore, along with drummer Shaughnessy Starr. Nikki Pickle (Death Valley Girls) replaces bassist Alex Bulli, who departed the band after their 2019 tour.

The video for the latest single “Sweet Freak” is the creation of Spaghetti Jesus — and it’s a claymation acid trip. “I was definitely aiming to make a short cosmic horror film that walked the line between camp and nightmare fuel,” he says.

Start with that video, and by its end, you might be the lead character in “Cavehead.”
