It’s no secret that music fans are the missing the big things in the absence of concerts — the sound, the crowds, the communal spirit. There are the small things, too.

Before Dawes launched into their drive-in show Friday night at the City National Grove of Anaheim, drummer Griffin Goldsmith marveled at how nice it was to finally hear the sound of a snare drum in the open air for the first time in many months.

The L.A. rockers, performing in support of their new album “Good Luck With Whatever” (their seventh), brought an ample amount of big energy. Fans watching from in and adjacent to their cars were treated to a 19-song set, five from the new album and the remainder from the band’s 11-year catalog.

The show was part of the Drive-In OC series at the Grove, which has shows by Ziggy Marley, Kaskade and LP on its upcoming calendar.

Setlist: Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?, If I Wanted Someone, When the Tequila Runs Out, Right on Time, That Western Skyline, Still Feel Like a Kid, Most People, Crack the Case, St. Augustine at Night, Quitter, Living in the Future, Now That It’s Too Late Maria, Didn’t Fix Me, A Little Bit of Everything, Free as We Wanna Be, Things Happen, From the Right Angle, When My Time Comes, All Your Favorite Bands
