Grouping together three new singles that clamored to be on our new playlist …
FINNEAS, “Can’t Wait to Be Dead”
On the heels of his equally thoughtful single “What They’ll Say About Us,” Finneas returns with “Can’t Wait to Be Dead,” a slow-building lament about the good ol’ internet and the daily onslaught of highs and lows it brings. “I’m happy for this song to mean anything to anyone who listens to it but to me, it’s a song about my relationship with the internet,” Finneas explains. “Especially in an election year. Especially during a pandemic. Sometimes, the internet makes me laugh, sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes it makes me hopeful. But sometimes, it really makes me wanna be dead.” The song came out Wednesday, followed today by this video by Constellation Jones (aka Clark Jackson).
SON LITTLE, “Goddess Wine”
Son Little, whose third album “Aloha” came out in January, is back with a more production-heavy approach on the new single. Autotune, spacey percussion, guitar licks dialed back — all washed down with a sip of “Goddess Wine.”
JACK NAME, “I Came to Tell You in Plain English (I’m Leaving You)”
On the heels of “Karolina” and “Sacred Place,” Jack Name unveils a breakup song that, while typically plaintive and understated, cuts like a razor. He’s the one doing the breaking up, and he isn’t regretting it. “I Came to Tell You in Plain English (I’m Leaving You)” is the third single from his album “Magic Touch,” out Nov. 20 on Mexican Summer.
