If Jessica Childress’ new EP isn’t inspiring enough (and it’s certainly a start), she shares her “good attitude” playlist in today’s episode of QUARANTUNES. We check in with the L.A. singer-songwriter as she wrestles with “the pause in normal life.”

THE LATEST FROM JESSICA CHILDRESS

Led by the buoyant single “Walk With Me,” Jessica Childress’ new EP “I’m Learning” is out today. Her first major release since the 2018 album “Days,” Childress proffers hymns to healing, compassion and the miracle of family and friends who help steer you through the rough patches.

“It’s called ‘I’m Learning’ because I feel like the work never stops,” Childress says of the EP. “You’re always in process. Always leveling up some way. It might not be in the dramatic moments but instead in the small, quiet ones where you choose grace instead of frustration or you’re a little nicer to yourself when you make a mistake or you choose yourself over an obligation. I feel like those are the tectonic plates of life sliding gradually until you realize one day you’re literally in the middle of an ocean. You’re standing on your own and charting a new path, leaving the things that no longer serve you in the distant past.”

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?

It’s been a difficult period for sure for many reasons. But, I think the pause in normal life has been an opportunity for me to reflect on my goals, to write songs and to really be more present in my life. I think this is a time of global upheaval that will hopefully lead to global healing, so I’m trying to sit with some of the upheaval in my life and do some of that healing on a personal level.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?

I’m really looking forward to playing shows with actual people in the audience, traveling – the little things. The hardest thing for me is the lack of physical human connection.

ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?

The playlist is a little slice from my End of Days playlist that I’ve been working on and adding to since quarantine started. It’s what I call my “good attitude” music that I put on when I need a little emotional pick-me-up.
