Justin Taylor has been at the center of several notable (if underappreciated) Los Angeles musical ventures: Black& (say “black sand”), Jutty Ranx and Greyface. Jutty Ranx, a trio whose dance-pop proved a cocktail of feel-good, earned the most notoriety, though not in L.A., or even the U.S. They had a single chart in Europe, where, while on tour, Taylor met and eventually became a member of U.K. fusionists The Very Best.

Fast-forward to pandemic-stricken 2020, and the Florida native will release his first solo album, under his nickname Jutty Taylor. “Little Seizures,” out Nov. 13, is the product of a year’s worth of sessions in living rooms, rehearsal spaces and home studios, all done in collaboration with longtime friend and bandmate Ryan Malina.

The album covers themes of unrequited affection, mortality, social media and sexuality, along with the odd murder mystery. The first single is “Ten Miles High,” an airy and prepossessing psych-pop number with a light Beck vibe. It makes you wanna be up high with him … or does it?

“The song is about synthesized feelings of joy and enlightenment,” Taylor says. “The heavy and unhealthy way to achieve bliss through disconnection.”
