On first listen, it’s easy to write off Desure’s new single “Hi/Lo” as your typical throwback indie-rock tune, but when listened within the context of his other singles, it becomes abundantly clear that there’s a lot more going on.

Joshua Desure is a one-man show, a Los Angeles native who bridges the folk-rock, indie, Americana, psychedelic and pop genres. His latest single,”Hi/Lo” showcases subtle synths, bluesy guitar leads and sweet background vocals.

It’s Desure’s fourth single this year and it will be featured on his upcoming EP, “Pollen,” produced by Cameron Duddy of Midland (the band for whom Desure was tour manager) and Jonathan Tyler. The lead track off the EP, “Masochist,” captures Desure’s musical fluidity with retro, funky sounds. It’s a rather dramatic contrast to the alternative rockin’ “Hi/Lo,” which, in turn, is in contrast with the the sweetly twangy “On Me,” which features Austin country singer Nikki Lane on harmonies.

Regarding the upcoming EP, Desure says “With pollen comes change, growth, and beauty…It’s a thing that’s ever-changing. This project is a representation of my own growth, and my ever-changing abilities as an artist. It’s the birth of something new.”

“Pollen” is slated to release Nov. 20 via MEGA/Tuxedo Records.
