Dead Sara have picked up where they left off, shredding like nobody’s business.

On Friday, the L.A. hard rockers released the new single “Hands Up,” a blistering song that features a glassware-shattering scream or two from singer Emily Armstrong along with the usual searing riffs from guitarist Siouxsie Medley. It’s their first new music since the 2018 odds-and-sods EP “Temporary Things Taking Up Space.” The band promises more new music is on the way, via Warner Records, in the new year.

“The core of this song was written in a day, almost like a stream-of-consciousness purge, and I soon realized it was about gaslighting,” Armstrong explains. “‘Hands Up’ refers to that moment when the person gaslighting you throws their hands up—like, ‘See, you’re crazy!’ — and you feel absolutely helpless. They’ve gotten to the innermost part of you and twisted it.”

The song was co-produced by Dead Sara drummer/programmer Sean Friday along with Noah Shain, who helmed the band’s two full-lengths, 2015’s “Pleasure to Meet You” and 2012’s self-titled debut.

Armstrong, Medley, bassist Ryan Blohm and Friday all go off in the value-added performance video, which is the work of Alicia Sadler and Rob Prochnow.
