Stream: B. Corn, ‘Lemon’

B. Corn

It’s been over a year since we’ve heard from reclusive Orange County prog/post/experimental rock outfit Kiev, but, as suspected, they have not been idle.

Last month brought the release of the first full-length from the band’s drummer Brandon Corn, a songwriter/multi-instrumentalist working under the name B. Corn. Titled “Lemon,” the album squeezes out nine tracks of expansive rock — genre-fluid but loosely falling in “psychedelic” realm. It’s a long-player for eureka moments and listeners who revel in details.

Corn says the songs were written over the past few years but finished during the pandemic. He produced the album himself, shipping it to Darrel Thorpe for the mix and Jim Wilson for mastering. No surprise that Corn is abetted by his Kiev bandmates: Derek Poulsen mans the bass; Robert Brinkerhoff plays bass and guitar; and Andrew Stavas is there with his saxophone. The string arrangements are by Mark Yaeger.

It’s not really a singles record, but here’s a tease in the way of “Water in the Lungs,” with the rest of the album below.
