Stream: La Poré, ‘All We Have Is Us’

“The room is cold, my chest is tight, paralyzed,” Nick Samson sings on “All We Have Is Us,” his new single as La Poré.

That vignette could have come at any time since the COVID-19 lockdown strangled all sense of normalcy, but the Cleveland native penned the lyrics pre-pandemic, musing on the isolation he felt after moving to a new city, Los Angeles. He turns those feelings to synth-pop crystal with sky-blue production (the song was co-produced with Kyle Kanzigg) and ascendant vocals.

“There’s a lot to unpack with this song,” Samson says. “It was written in February, right before COVID hit. I was newly married, just moved to Los Angeles a few months prior, and knew very few people. It was scary. It was tough. Of course, we had no idea a global pandemic would hit and make things even stranger in this strange new place. The song still resonates, though, maybe even more so now. Feeling uncertainty, feeling discomfort, and sort of longing for a sense of normalcy and peace through big life changes.”

The single is the follow-up to “Blame,” released last fall, and “Over It,” La Poré’s collaboration with Captain Kidd.
