Adult Books’ dark-pop twist on post-punk is the work of songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Nick Winfrey, joined by childhood pals Sina Salessi (drums) and Alex Galindo (guitar/synth). It’s been five years since their debut album “Running From the Blows,” but last fall’s hard-driving single “Innocence” augured something big. And here it is.
With today’s release of the new single “Florence,” Adult Books announced that their sophomore album “Grecian Urn” will be out March 26 via the European label Taxi Gauche Records. The new album finds the trio working with producer Jonny Bell (Crystal Antlers).
“Florence” was inspired by a bout of loneliness Winfrey felt while walking the streets of the Italian city late at night, with Winfrey painting some vivid lyrical vignettes. For the video, director Tony Accosta follows him around to some Southern California locales — they ain’t Florence, but you get the idea.
