Though Syd has never been far from the public eye, “Missing Out” is the first solo release from the L.A. native since 2017, when she released the full-length “Fin” followed by the EP “Always Never Home.”
The 28-year-old singer-songwriter-producer has minded her business as a member of the Internet, who released their fourth album “Hive Mind” in 2018; been a busy collaborator (with Beyoncé, Lil Uzi Vert, Kehlani, Disclosure and Kelly Rowland, among others); worked in fashion and built a home recording studio. The press blast for the new song even points out that besides working on a film project and getting involved in a wine brand, she’s spent her quarantine time collecting a rehabbing old trucks.
She tunes up her ’90s-indebted neo-soul on “Missing Out,” her steamy, croon over wavering synths and a light touch of glockenspiel, lamenting a relationship that fizzled … “’Cause we didn’t spend the proper time / Trying to work it out.”
