Indie-rocker Melina Duterte — better known under her stage name Jay Som — has teamed up with Palehound’s Ellen Kempner to form the new duo Bachelor. Their debut single, “Anything At All,” strikes all the right chords and leaves you excited to hear more.

The track opens with a slow, steady bassline and drum beat. As the song progresses, the layers of instrumentation start to fold in before finally erupting into a full-blown groove that rocks pretty hard. After the explosion, the opening bassline and drums return to close out the tune. With fuzz guitar leads, subtle piano notes and synth accents, “Anything At All” showcases both Duterte and Kempner’s musicianship.

The two got together last year pre-quarantine while on a break from touring. Speaking of touring, Palehound is hosting a show next month to commemorate the one-year anniversary of their canceled U.S. tour.

Regarding the new project, the duo says, “We’re so excited to finally share this song with y’all and announce our new band! We’ve been dear friends and huge fans of each other for years and were lucky enough to get to work together in January 2020 before the quarantine. We feel that ‘Anything At All’ is an even blend of our tastes and writing styles and to release it feels very hopeful and joyous to us.”
