Ears Wide Open: Even Kevin

Even Kevin is the UCLA-birthed duo of the Bay Area native Wil Sheets and L.A.’s Michael Zuker. The indie-surf rock group released their first EP last October and is gearing up to release their debut LP, “Pleasant Beach,” featuring their new single “The Rest of Our Lives” (out today).

Zuker and Sheets both sing, play guitar and bass. It’s clear the two mesh, as their voices and style of playing are difficult to distinguish. “The Rest of Our Lives” is an old-school rocker with an upbeat guitar lick, a steady rhythm on the ride and a chorus that sounds sweet. Zuker, the lead vocalist on this track, says “I wrote ‘The Rest of Our Lives’ during a night when I couldn’t get to sleep and was inspired by a lot of old rock (Beatles, Beach Boys, etc.) and ended up writing the song about the joy and hope you feel before a first date.”

In February, the duo released the single “Space Song” along with a music video. The video, directed and animated by Amir Gold is a narrative of stargazing, space exploring and love. Sheets is the main singer in this one. “I was inspired by bedroom pop and Amir’s idea to create a love story in space,” he says. “I wanted the song to accurately depict the feeling of longing for a lost love.”

The title of the forthcoming album, “Pleasant Beach,” is a combination of duo’s respective hometowns. The album is out in April.
