The Music Center’s 42nd Annual Very Special Arts Festival will go virtual and air publicly for the very first time online on Friday, April 16, from 10-11 a.m.
Master teaching artist David Prather (host of LA Phil’s annual Holiday Sing-a-long and SummerSounds at the Hollywood Bowl among many others) and mezzo-soprano Suzanna Guzmán (co-host of the Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration and one of the original Associate Artists of Los Angeles Opera) will be co-hosting the event, themed “Seeds of Kindness.”
All are encouraged to watch, participate and celebrate with students with disabilities from K-12 schools throughout Los Angeles County– including Little Citizens Westside Academy (Leimert Park), Christopher Dena Elementary School (East Los Angeles), Millikan Middle School (Sherman Oaks) and Pio Pico Middle School (Mid-City)– as they showcase their visual, dance and musically artistic talents alongside professional performance groups and artists such as magician Kenrick “Ice” McDonald, ILL-Abilities international pro break dancing crew and more. There will also be workshops in dance, theatre, music and media by the Music Center’s teaching artists, Straight Up Abilities, Chameleons Mime Theatre and the Caribbean Drum Circle (learn to make a drum and shaker).
Tune into the festival on the Music Center’s website.
